amy made a great find this month and i thought i'd share it with you. the first saturday of each month, home depot has a kid's workshop. a parent can bring their kiddo and build a free manly craft. amy pushed for a father son outing and i am glad she did. each kiddo gets an orange apron, a craft and a certificate of completion. michaeal's big moments during the building process included elmer's glue, a hammer and nails. he really enjoyed himself...as did i.
michael gives a detailed description of the process here:
michael was pretty happy with his new acquisition...

when he got home he had to show his best dude his new football stool.

as the sheen of the new stool wore off, we reflected on how we would be using the stool and its significance on a broader scale:
and how about you? do you have big super bowl plans? a big party? only tivo till monday morning? and do you want the patriots to be perfect? or the manning brothers each to have a super-bowl ring...

First to see Gunnison.
Go Dolphins.
Go Mitt.
Didn't even TIVO it.
Zach loves Home Depot, he points it out every time we drive by. I'll have to see if they do that here, he AND Steven would both LOVE that! I can think of so many uses for that stool!
Great Game! Lafe, Mel and I watched the game with her family at Mel's parents' house on the big screen. Melinda and I thought it would be okay to watch the game on Sunday as Mel's parents invited a family whom they fellowshipped into full activity in the church. :)
go gaints go gaints go gaints.patriots are crapyyly bad
this not dad this is lafe
this is Mel)
Yes, my family is a bunch of heathens. :) I did ask Jonny last week if we were going to watch the big game on Sunday and we discussed it for a while...then mom called wondering if we were going to come eat hamburgers with them. Oh boy.
jill: they would definitely LOVE it!
dad: you have always been consistent...
jonny: what a sweet game. i was yelling it up with michael whose favorite team changed three times in the 4th quarter. i was so happy to see that patriots lose this game after the 'cheating' episode the start of the season. sure, their a good team, but it would be a shame to have them be the second team to run the table.
it was touching to see peyton so excited for his brother when you know how badly he wanted to be there with his own team. (though you can bet he was in no small part rooting against brady since everyone has been placing brady above peyton lately...)
lafe: you're absolutely right.
dad: go mitt.
I caught the beginning, took a loooong nap, and watched the 4th quarter with my boys while the girls jumped off the table into our arms over and over and over (sound familiar Jonny and Stevie??).
That GIANT pass in the 4th quarter was pretty exciting. While I was a little rubbed to have it on ALL AFTERNOON, it was a great 4th quarter to watch.
I do have to record something Michael said during our viewing of President Hinckley's funeral. When Pres. Packer got up and spoke for a few minutes, he looked up at us and declared that "Pres. Packer sounds just like Yoda."
Sound like Yoda, he does.
Well, Star Wars was quoted in Church Meetings for some time after it came out. Good v Evil. And, Yoda is good.
We got a Yoda quote during fast and testimony meeting yesterday. Church+Star Wars=timeless.
Because none of the dental students had a family to gather with during the super bowl, we had a super bowl 'gathering' at our house yesterday. Everyone was cheering for the giants, so you can imagine the excitement during the fourth quarter!
sounds like a fun gathering libs. 4th quarter was outstanding. did i mention i was very happy to see the pats lose?
i can also think of many uses for stool....
go giants, my hometown team!!!!!!!!
We miss you.
Thanks for the recipe Amy. I made a ditto of your dinner for some guests on Sunday. No Super Bowl - no cable. Jan was ecstatic the Pats won.
Garrett has been asking to go to Dland for his birthday in August. Maybe we could hook up? Garrett would be beside himself.
I hope your non-cable sports news didn't give Jan faulty information. I hope he was still able to be excited about a win for the Giants.
They showed some of the street parties that happened in NYC after the Superbowl win... did the NCHipsters take part in anything like that??
Christine... Disneyland with you guys sounds soooo fun! We'd love that. Our pass blocks us out of a large part of the summer (when it's too busy to enjoy, anyway...) June 18-August 18. Other than that, we can go most other days other than Saturdays and Sundays (and holidays). I hope that would line up with when you guys are around.
