disney, friends and goodness...

the nielsen family came out for a disneyland vacation and i had a 1/2 day off in between urgent care shifts a conference. we went out and were really happy we did...

we met the nielsen's at university village and saysha and amy became great friends immediately.

saysha and nate are out in kirksville for medical school and it was fun to talk with nate about his plans for choosing a specialty. he is at a fun crossroads as he starts his third year and makes the big decision.

i didn't get enough pictures pf our families interactions, but the most enjoyable part for me was watching michael interact with caitlyn.

we looked at pictures of their family before we left for anaheim and talked about how we knew them. almost from the moment we met up with them michael was taken with caitlyn. they would watch each other quite a bit and talked and played like they were best friends. here are a couple super-cute videos of them holding hands.

so anyway. this trip to disney was our most recent and ended our vacation days for a while. it was great seeing the nielsens again and what better place to reconnect than the happiest place on earth...right?

michael's moments of spontaneity, when he uncharacteristically struck out on his own for one daring maneuver...

oh, and a bonus picture. this is abby and bekah in granpatty's dress up clothes. their actions range from adorable to emotional torture right now and this is one of their sweeter, more loving moments.

Emotional torture, huh? I can't imagine those sweet girls torturing anyone!

thanks for the updating, doting, and communicating...

Cute pictures, it's nice to read about something besides anal fissures.

It is hard for me to imagine that your kids are only wearing sweatshirts! Where are the hats, gloves, snow pants, snow boots, long underwear . . .

And michael running in water???? What are you parents thinking? It's only 9 degrees! :)
Where is Michael running in the water?

Paul - check out our new post. Blood and snow. What more could you ask for?

Christine... I'm sad I didn't see your sledding post sooner. Looks like you are finding all the good points of ALL that Rexburg snow!

Follow the "Christine and Jan" link on our sidebar for some snow drama.

you're right libby. i shouldn't say 'torture'.

how about, emotional taxation..? that probably encapsulates their more trying episodes...

Ah...those videos make me want to go back right now! Outside in Kirksville this morning it's -3, and it says it 'feels like -22' (that's with the windchill). You should come visit! ;o) Thanks for the cute memories, and for sacrificing your vacation time to play with us! We miss you guys already!

We need to go to Disneyland with the "experts" next time. How long will your family be in CA?

paul said...

saysha: kirksville sounds delightful...we will come the first chance we get (which would be after the baby comes and unfortunately you'll be in arizona by then?...i guess we can't make it :(

and crashing your vacation party made our vacation so much better!

amyjo: we are in cali till july '09. next time you're ritzing it up in laguna beach you should bring the kids to our place and we'll all go to disneyland afterwards...?

Joe and Amy said...

Sounds like a plan...Laguna beach is left to the discreion of his boss :) unfortunately we can't ritz it up without him sponsoring it...we wouldn't be eating for a few months if we had to pay for it...but it's funny that you mentioned that because while we were down there we talked about what we would do if we had a newborn that couldn't attend the evening activities....the idea to have your family come to the hotel for a few hours to watch him/her came up...(btw this is not an announcement) how far away are you from Laguna Beach? and would you guys be willing if that scenario presented itself?

Amy F said...

Amy L... We are an hour away from Laguna Beach, and YES!!! Newborn or no, we'd love a chance to see you.

And you mentioned coming out for Wicked... did that already come/go, or is that coming up??

We'd love to meet up with you guys for a little trip sometime. Keep us posted on some of your adventures that take you south... perhaps we could meet up somewhere.

Saysha (and Christine)... sorry for your cold-weather-blues. We have had a lot of wind/rain the last couple of days... and now I feel bad for complaining about not being able to go to the park for the afternoon.

And yes, Libby. "Emotional torture" is a tad overdone. But "emotional taxation" is pretty fair. Perhaps we'll post about some of the ups and *taxes* later.

Let's just say that the sisters have learned to undress themselves, scream, and have become quite independent.

But they are also communicating so much more with us and each other, learning to share/give/be quite affectionate, and show imaginative/role playing qualities in their play. So fun.

I love the age of two.

Is your blog no longer private? I'm signed in under Steven and got onto your blog, but not the heritage night. I've never noticed before...was it a fluke?

Amy, I agree, age 2 is fun.

Steven said...

maybe it never was private and I'm going crazy...Jill here, not Steven.

Amy F said...

Nope... you aren't going crazy. Paul is taking it off the private domain for a while as an experiment. Don't know what his hypothesis is...

I got excited to see Steven with a "v" commenting... not that you are disappointing, Jill. Tell your hubby hello for us.

paul said...

the blog isn't as private as it once was. we are trying an experiment where friends are able to find their way to our site through other friends page links and reconnect with us. we'll see how long we try the experiment...

It is too bad you all don't remember your own 'taxing' moments.
