sure, we didn't win by the margin oregon did last week against washington.maybe we didn't beat washington by the margin ohio state beat ohio...
maybe we shot ourselves in the foot a few too many times for comfort..?
maybe the pac 10 refs handed several calls down the stretch that are forgotten in the glow of the jake lockers 'football toss'.
but wow, the glow i'm feeling after this win is 'very nice'. a win i was 60% sure wasn't going to happen. i have watched far too many losses to pac 10 teams in my time as a byu fan and i was very nervous.
but my goodness. the elation of that blocked punt (irony strikes again as byu has won it's last two games versus pac 10 teams in similar fashion...)
and let's not downplay the washington team. they were fighting mad after their humiliation last week against oregon. this was their swan song for coach willingham. byu was tough when they needed to be.
and let's not forget that byu beat washington in every offensive and defensive category except penalties and 4th down conversion (byu didn't have to attempt any.) this obvious edge in the stat category was lost on the announcers that were falling over themselves to condemn the loss as the fault of the pac 10 refs who have a time-honored tradition of calling the game for the home-team in outrageously unfair ways. well, this time the cougs put a stamp on the naysayers by blocking the kick to take the win back into their own hands.
even if byu loses to air force away and doesn't go on to a bowl game...this ending of the 0-9 streak in non-bowl games against non-conference opponents lifted my faith in the true legitimacy of these boys. they played with poise and battled back over and over.
sweet victory this one.

all in all, a great sports day here in so-cal.
Wow, an away win against the Pac 10 drops us 3 slots in the polls. Looks like the announcers are still tripping around about that call.
Game never should have came down to that. Unfortunate rule but correct call. Hopefully we can beat UCLA convincingly to get some national respect back.
Darin
and hopefully washington will beat oklahoma and show their mettle on the national stage.
it was disappointing that the announcers didn't highlight our trouncing of them in all facets of the game. but if they are as bad as the oregon game showed, then maybe the game didn't mean that much...still too early to say.
Did you hear about Lane's sweet job with the BYU football team? He applied for an internship and Bronco hired him for a new position, (a real job, not an internship), for the team. He eats with them, travels with them, interviews them and then posts everything online. He makes all of the highlights and "Pump it up" videos for the team and of course he has scored loads and loads of BYU gear. He has loved it so far!! He gets to be down on the field for all of the games and video all of the awesome plays and then post them online.
Go Cougars!!
Wow, Jenni. I think all of the men I'm related to are now salivating about Lane's job.
Matt, I think that might even beat detonating weapons for a living...
I wonder where we could see Lane's handiwork online??
I will think of you this week when I sit in the stands and cheer on the Cougars of BYU.
