my cousin petey and emily left the high life in nyc to mingle here in the countryside of the inland empire...
it meant a lot that they would take the time to drive here and hang out with us. i was post call from the icu and was not dressed for the occasion, i probably smelled from the lack of a shower and was often found to drift out of the conversation at awkward moments. aside from that, amy was able to whip up a sweet picnic lunch of frito salad and we headed out to the park:

the weather was perfect and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the company, the food and the sand...

a few weeks back there was a discussion (password protected for some) about cutting edge fashion as relates to my nyc hipster cousin. those of you unable to get access to the glamor can enjoy this hint of what was experienced:

i was so moved by the post, that the next week while watching american idol, i was drawn to an image on-screen. i re-wound the shot and found that maybe petey was on to something. here is petey holding a photo of houndstooth glorified on television's top-rated show.

he and this idol contestant's mother are fashion...
anyways, thanks for stopping by you two. it was a lot of fun to reconnect in person and see you here in the IE.
two other fun happenings. you will notice below that i reconnected with my inner cook and my inner effeminate this weekend (yes, i'm posing with my bundt cake...)

our friends had a 'bundt-cake bonanza' and the only rule was that the women would be voting on bundt cakes that were created by the men without any help from their spouses...
i made a mean green bundt cake in the vein of wicked and st. patty's day. however, like worhol before me, the masses weren't ready for this mass of iconic greenness before them. i went away empty handed in the voting, but with a full and happy stomach. the food was good and the company better. see the final product in all it green glory.

in other happenings, michael and i started 'indian in the cupboard' for bed-time reading. we love it. this book has been much more accessible than 'red fern' was for him. he is laughing often and spurs me to read more whenever i start falling asleep or slow down to think. just as red fern spawned images of dogs and coonskin caps in our house, michael has taken to re-discovering the plastic figures in his playroom...

thanks for reading. hope all is well for you. amy is looking forward to her trip this week...of which many of you will be a part.

first, suckas..
paul: interesting that you would link cooking with the effeminate. hmmm....
petey, come back to me.
not cooking, my pose with the particular hand placement. (trying to find hidden mysogyny eh brother?..not so fast.)
i'm proud of that effemininity...
The bundt looks yummy! Sounds like a fun get together. Maybe DJ and I will have to recreate it Pittsburgh style!
yes libby, it was a dental student who won. he had a pretty elaborate sushi style bundt cake--that included a bonzai tree, 3 seperate dips, chopsticks for each lady to sample his wares and a shirt with a japanese character on it.
the impression that this guy has too much time on his hands came to mind...but his trophy was well deserved.
remember - mom said houndstooth was in during her youth , love dad
I've enjoyed reading the past couple of posts. Looks like a lot of fun for the Frandsen clan.
Libby... worry not. I saved you a piece. We're excited to retrieve you tomorrow!!
Paul's cake was super yummy!! He did very well--even added his own 'minty' flair to a standard recipe. I'll be requesting his services more in the kitchen, methinks...
And it was so fun to see Petey and Emily. The two of you made my hurried day turn relaxed and enjoyable. Thanks for finding the time for us... it really did mean a lot. And Petey, your green Frandsen shirt was the epitome of style, as it was a little warm to sport your houndstooth.
i is fashion.
boo yeah.
paul.
we all have too much time on our hands.
post NDBE part I, of course...
training for a lifestyle. what can i say?
i'm not against lifestyle or having time on your hands.
in fact, i would say it's a goal of mine to get to the point where i have too much time on my hands.
ron: petey has definitively proven with his self-portraits that houndtooth is in once again.
sunrise, sunset...
jenni: hi!
Wish I could have tasted the green bundt cake. Martha Stewart would be proud.
TASTING THE GREEN BUNDT CAKE IS MOM, NOT me. sorry paul, i couldn't get up an appetite for green strawberries. mom writes comments on my sign-in. love uncle ron
shauna: i love martha stewart, but i would much prefer to give you a piece and make you proud.
ron: i think the green was a big reason i lost to the second place guy...he had this beautifully placed cheescake frosting over a perfectly shaped bundt cake...it was hard to compete with the beauty of black and white.
This is SHAUNA.
Paul: Did you see "My Big Fat Greek Wedding?" One of my FAVORITE
scenes in the movie referred to a buuuunnnndt cake.
big fat greek wedding was a great movie. i think this is the scene you were talking about?
[upon receiving a bundt cake from Mrs. Miller]
Maria Portokalos: It's a cake! I know! Thank you! Thank you very, very much.
[whispering to another woman, indignated]
Maria Portokalos: There's a hole in this cake!
paul: those were not self portraits of peter. they were art made by myself...
stevie: it was apparent from the start that someone other than peter took the photos. it has been undisputed that they are art.
yesterday, after looking at the photo of peter in comparison to the photos i took this week, it dawned on me that you had probably done some work in photo shop or with the original settings, because the photo looks really nice.
I is fashion.
Stevey are art.
Cooking is passion.
Paul is Martha Stewart.
Green beans. Green bundt cake. How did I raise my boys?
i guess i don't get it. was that an attempt at a haiku peter? it was nice.
pappy: you raised us right...
being the halfie that i am,
it is half haiku and half limerick.
although it is more just ABAB rhymin and stealin than anything else.
Frandsen family! I've missed you all! Clearly I need to visit Paul's blog more often. Paul, that cake made me think of that green slimy stuff you used to be able to buy in little plastic containers and make your mom mad by getting all over the house. I'm sure it tasted good, though.
Pete--No words. No words.
Sorry Paul, I'm not quite sure how the pregnant women didn't loose everything with green frosting. Try a different color next time!
i'm sensing animosity from the female corner...an almost color discrimination. it makes me sad...
hi naomi, welcome to our blog!
naomi.
no words to fully express your...
...admiration
...emotions as you read my poetry
...no words that compare...?
i'll take any of the following.
following or above?
take this sucka...
Spectacular bundt, Paul. Really, a splendid bundt. Go green anytime you can.
thank you matty. i appreciate your support on this one. it means a lot...really.
tracy.
touche.
nice zinger.
Paul, I hope you chime in on Matt's blog about BYU's tourney seed.....What an outrage.
i will come over. it is a complete outrage. i saw it last night and lost much of my desire to fill out a bracket this year. it's a complete dis. we are in the top 25...we nearly beat north carolina earlier in the year and the tournament committee throws us to the dogs with a matchup against texas a&m. 6x4 is 24. we should at least have been a 6 or 7 seed...
