Our Day Trip to BYU
One must dress for the occasion when visiting the college of one's favorite football team. Yes, the ride there was filled with a running commentary on the "pretend John Beck, Fui Vakapuna, and Hala Paongo" playing a football game in the back seat.

First stop: the Bookstore where Michael was dazzled by the plethora of BYU paraphanalia. He pointed out many Bs and Ys and Us. Our greatest find? A BYU flag:

We've taught Michael that the flag (a US flag) is a symbol of our freedom. So whenever we ask what the flag stands for, he dutifully says "It is a symbol of our freedom." But when he found the BYU flag, he excitedly said: "Look mom, it is a symbol of John Beck's freedom!" and later he remarked that it is also a "symbol of the Cougars."
We purchased a BYU football and put it to good use...

...throwing some touchdowns...

...and kicking some sweet kickoffs.
Then he wanted a picture with the football player.

Needless to say, it was a marked event in the life of the biggest 3-year-old BYU fan in California. We just wish daddy could have been there.
And I can't let this post go without showing you what Grandma found when we were having breakfast the other day:
Yes, Bekah found a BLACK permanent marker. It has been worn/scrubbed off of her skin, and *mostly* cleaned off of the carpet (YIKES!).

your child is obsessed. you are creating a monster...although he is a cute monster.
i've wondered what problems could come from him getting too involved with just one thing.
i've consoled myself myself with the idea that he is diverse in his interests...winnie the pooh, lightening mcqueen, star wars, pizza, jesus' visit to america, poo poo in the potty, mater, criss cross (that's a game--not the musicians), music (lots of memorized lyrics).
so while you hear a lot from us about BYU football right now (like when i turn on a game and he starts jumping up and down and running around the room--throwing, kicking, passing and tackling), you hopefully need not use monster and michael in the same sentence.
nice to have you in california brother.

It's good to see you bringing up Michael in the 'true faith'. tonight at your parents house he was wearing his byu helmet at all times.
My kids will not have the option of being U of U fans.
Good to hear that, Nick. Your children will be 4th generation Frandsen Fans like Michael is. A righteous tradition of his fathers.
Yes, Nick came to Sunday dinner today, along with Jill & Steven and their crew, Grandma and Grandpa Frandsen (what a trip!), and my brother Paul. I was sad that my husband Paul couldn't be there as well. You are missed, my dear.
But "a good time was had by all!"
Stephen, wish you could have been here THIS weekend...
paul.
just make sure micheal's ready for his debut in the gunnison valley turkey bowl whether that's this year or next. you and nick are going to need all the help you can get.
it's all about the quarterback. i probably won't be there, but i'm still working on it.
hi nick. thanks for visiting california. i'm glad to hear that you've drawn the line at being a u of u fan. it's important.
if i'm at the game then i better be on paul's team. if not, we will probably want to kill each other once again (probably due to the fact that my team will actually be winning).
jill: i'm afraid criss cross is the way learned how men appropriately behave themselves in the WC. it's a great teaching/learning tool and fun too.
i'm amy got to spend time with you and kids this week. she really enjoyed herself.
although it has been a while since i participated in criss cross with my brothers or father. i guess it is an age specific activity.
Glad to hear that. :)
I was also glad to learn that it is a gender specific activity. For a moment at the dinner table I felt left out when everyone spoke so highly of the criss-cross game. What would we do without mothers who always find a way to enlighten our misunderstandings!
i still play criss cross--but with my cousin. we call it swords, though.
Stephen... you are forgetting our "no profanity" rule.
I'm happy to report the kiddos and I are home safe and sound... after lots of ... sound.
thank for rigging up the DVD player jonny. it never fell down, but in the melee she didn't realize the power cord wasn't working. so the girls didn't get baby einstein and she couldn't get them to stop crying the last 1+ hours.
We are keeping Thanksgiving open to hopefully make it down. Paul for sure doesn't have *Thanksgiving* off, but he MIGHT be able to come for some of the surrounding days. We'll see.
Thanks for all who made the trip such a wonderful one. It was so enjoyable for all of us.
My grandfather's funeral was perfect--a tribute to him, his family, and his faith. It was a true testimony of the reward of a faithful life.
I really enjoyed my time with my parents and brothers. It was nice to remember our grandpa together. I just wish there had been more together! I think they are all mad at me for not bringing the kids, but my brother Paul got to come to see them a few times. Christmas will be rawl.
Mom Frandsen spent LOTS of time with her grandkids while she let me get out and do some of the things I NEVER do nowadays. She is so good to us. Plus, as you saw, Michael and I got to have some really fun times just the two of us.
Dad Frandsen took some time off of work for our Salmon Spawning trip, which was fun and informative! And he had quite the nighttime experience when he watched them all when they were *supposed* to be sleeping!
I got to see Libby's play twice!!! and she was just as brilliant and beautiful as ever. Somehow our "party" plans were always spoiled by my kids... huh?
Jonny and Mel are a cute uncle and aunt. I loved seeing them interact with my kids, and it was fun to stop by their apartment and visit with Mel. Michael and I got to see Jonny in his element on the BYU campus. It all brings back memories for me.
Hannah is just as busy as ever, but took time to cuddle with her girls and talk to Michael. They love her, and I am glad that Bekah still looks like her.
Lafe, as always, is more like a brother than an uncle to Michael. They are a funny pair, and I appreciate Lafe for being such a good friend to him. He really looks up to you, Lafe.
And it was so fun to see so much family. We really miss all of you. It was nice to make some more memories for us to reflect on until the next time we are together.
Steve--
Your 'swords' comment made me laugh out loud. i'm in the quiet library so thanks....
Turkey bowl II--> if Paul can't make it, then we get Ryan on our team to play Q. Pete you bet watch out catching any ball over the middle!!
Go cougs!! aren't we all glad Whittingham turned us down and we got bronco instead!!
hey nick! i'm am definitely glad we didn't get whittingham. bronco has turned out to be the discliplinarian that BYU needs and he's winning games.
now if the jazz could start winning games. will we have the right chemistry this year?
swords was funny.
