last week i was home alone with the kids and on a whim i decided to watch the most recently recorded performances on american idol with them. they were enthralled. michael asked lots of questions throughout the show and commented on each of the performances. by the time mom got home, we were ready to watch the results show and michael was getting pretty excited.
when the results show came to a close michael looked perplexed. 'who won?' he said. we told him no one won, but someone lost. his looked of perplexity grew until i explained how each week someone is voted off. a smile of realization and anticipation spread across his face, and i realized that he had no idea that american idol was a phenomenon that had spread itself over weeks and would not be ending for over a month (not a one-time deal as he originally thought.)
anyway, you can enjoy and laugh at some of his enthusiasm below. all this after just two weeks of fandom...

First!!!!!!!
That is one of the cutest things i've seen in a long time, even if it is about AI.
What was David's last name? Maybe he isn't a shoe-in if Jason has Michael's vote.
David's real last name is Archuleta. And he usually calls Jason Castro "the long-haired dude." As you can see, Michael's analysis gets us down-right slap-happy.
I knew there was no turning back when, the morning after Paul's "introduction," I woke up to Michael's voice from his room saying... "This... is AMERICAN IDOL!! (music sounds and cheering)"
Just for the record, I was pretty resistant to this whole thing at first. But it has been really fun to watch with Michael... and with our DVR the results show only takes about 15 minutes when we rush past all of Seacrest's silliness.
Amy he is hilarious!! Tell Michael simon is my fav too!!! :)
Michael, you have a sweet British accent.
Amy, we watch AI with our kids too. They LOVE it! They ask to watch it every night. They'll make comments like, "boys don't have long hair" (obviously, some do) or "she needs to cover up her shoulders" or "that's a pretty song" or "she's wearing a modest dress" (yea Brooke). Some may not be fans, ahem, Stephen, but it has made for some fun family togetherness and laughs as well as good conversation about standards...It is funny what they pick up on. We were chuckling when Zach started explaining "the end of Kristy Lee Cook."
Oh, I like David enchilada too!
Paul & Amy-that was the cutest video. Love the comments about "mustard" and "david enchilada." He is really taking it all in. It's so fun to keep in touch!
Michael's analysis is hilarious! Jonny might just change his mind about Jason after hearing Michael's strong support for him.
Amy,
You need to post this on You Tube. Michael would be famous! I couldn't keep myself from laughing out loud at Michael's analysis of Syesha's name, and Simon's pronunciation of "mustard." And, I'm going to look at Jason through new eyes after seeing how much Michael likes him!
libby: his video is already on you tube...it can be found here!
at last count he had 66 views and no comments..:)
the comments we laughed hardest at were unscripted. we had never heard him talk about simon before. his mustard comments were really fun.
So much fun. I can't believe Michael is getting so old. Fun to see how they react to things.
We haven't been able to watch AI this year. (If it is not on the internet, no dice.) Glad you are having fun.
