so, i definitely should have written about this days ago...but i was busy work and then at home with fever and chills. maybe i'll be more empathic at my next urgent care shift when i see over half of my 50 patients with fever and chills...? (oh, and our computer was down with me having wipe the hard-drive out and kiss brad maccasson's feet for having helped me partition my drive before moving to california)
coming back to the point. the mainstream media had coronated mccain and huckabigot for their two iowa and new hampshire, ignored the wyoming win for romney and insinuated that it was very likely that mccain would go on to win in michigan because he beat bush there in 2000. the first poll that came out after the new hampshire win showed mccain over romney by 8 percentage points (beyond the margin of error). the spin masters of msnbc and cnn work hard to have people believing that mitt was down and out.
well, he and the michigonians showed them otherwise. i don't think this win can be understated in importance for him. there was talk of his big backers (meg whitman of ebay among others) pulling out to have more sway over the eventual winner (read: beat huckabee whatever the cost).
is it irony that msnbc had a democratic debate the night of the michigan primary and equated that debate in importance with the michigan primary? is it a surprise that the media and all the republican candidates are chalking up romney's win not to his qualifications in voters minds, but to the simple fact that he lived there for a couple years and his father served as its governor?
regardless, romney has received the most votes of any (republican) candidate, has the most delegates of any candidate, and has won the most outright primaries of any candidate. all in all, it was a good tuesday in january for my boy mitt.

Really, though. It has been interesting to see how things are looking in these primary elections. Democrats are turning out in hoards to vote, and I'm wondering about what November will bring. So much will depend on the candidates...
I wish Mitt would get a little more personal with the press and media. By personal I don't mean mushy, etc. Everything just seems so polished and professional... I just don't think he is appealing to the "common man" like McCain, Huckabee, Hillary, Obama...

to me that is really the only explanation for his victory in michigan.

May Romney do well in Florida. Jeb Bush is supporting him. We will see if that has any bearing on the final race. I watched John McCain's 'winner's speech' in South Carolina. He used a teleprompter and really used it to move on to Florida and to take subtle jabs at Romney. But, I would be satisfied with him for the most part. I don't like his temper. And, I don't really like his take on campaign reform from years past. I do like his position of the war. I'm not sure what his economic policy is; but, he has voted for tax increases. I am not happy that he joined the 'gang of 14' and tried to thwart the constitutional duty for the appointment of judges. So, much to see.

You must have really combed the web to find anything on Romney. I get the Albuquerque paper and keep an eye on CNN. All I have heard of Romney is that he won Michigan because he was running as favorite son, that he got smashed in Iowa, N.H., S.C., and that Clinton won Nevada. The polls are really down on him. The only things that speak well for him are actual votes and delegate counts (which are the most important, aren't they?)
They talk of the Florida race being a defining moment for Huck, and a big shot for Gulli. Nothing about Romney there. I think Huck is hanging around to try to dilute the conservative vote.
The media and other candidates must really hate Romney.

mccain wouldn't be so bad, but his temper worries me too with a global need for diplomacy at a premium.
a recent poll shows romney ahead of macain and guiliani by 5% 25 to 20 and huckabee at 13%
romney and thompson would be a formidable ticket.
romney took second in iowa and new hampshire. he won by only 6% or so in each. no other candidate has as many firsts and seconds as him (1st: michigan, nevada, wyoming. 2nd: new hampshire, michigan) he has the most total votes of any republican and the most delegates. south carolina republicans still fly the confederate flag...winning there is a negative in my mind.
many of the blogs i have read recently have had many more favorable comments about romney that in the past...
i think his chances are still very good. mccain can't win in some of the 'republican only' primaries. he will struggle on super-tuesday with most of the candidates attacking him because they feel he is the frontrunner. he is very vulnerable to these attacks if conservatives hear and think about his senate record...

Gulli definitely has a strategy for Florida and after. He is a smart man. I suspect he has had a lot of fun watching the super-conservatives duke it out.
I think the media just isn't very fascinated by the Republican race, and not particularly because of a liberal bias. It just doesn't matter. Recession, war, immigration. Things are not looking particularly positive for the Republicans these days.
The fun stuff is Hillary vs. Obama. Did you watch the Monday debate? Lots of clenched teeth. Lots of good zingers at each other. Much more entertaining.

i heard daniel shores do a silly piece this morning about bill clinton not being presidential enough when going after his favorite candidate. he tried to paint bill as unhinged...when you hear daniel shores talk enough you start to think that perhaps he is the unhinged one...
daniel shores is the 'senior reporter' on npr. he loves to tell about the time when nixon placed him on the 'most wanted reporters' list. daniel tells this every year at the anniversary of watergate.
